Description

The Devonshire is quite an elegant restaurant located in an old terrace house on Devonshire Street. It has white table cloths and napkins and is semi formal, in a relaxed way.

Review

The Devonshire is very welcoming and is a perfect place to take your partner. It is unpretentious and yet maintains elegance throughout with comfortable surroundings and excellent service. The menu is fairly small and I suppose this is an advantage in that its focus is on providing just few choices done really well. The food quality is very good. We both started off with a seafood entree. The only negative comment is that the prawns were over cooked while the scallops were under cooked. Mains: I had ribs and wagyu while my partner had seafood. We also had asparagus and kipfler potatoes (cooked perfectly). To drink we had a bottle of Malborough (NZ) Pinot Gris. We finished off with an excellent desert and muscatel. I have read reviews on review sites which suggested the portions are small. I guess some people are used to piles of food being heaped on a plate and when its not they feel a bit cheated. We thought the amount was about perfect.

The staff are all very friendly and professional.

This is an excellent local Surry Hills restaurant and a place we intend to go back to often.

Prices are fairly reasonable. With wine we paid $220.00.
